JOB TITLE: Retail Operations Associate

SUPERVISION: Retail Operations Manager / Assistant Manager

HOURS: 30-35 hours, M-F with occasional Saturdays

Performs retail duties to assist in accomplishing Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon retail objectives including souvenir stands and pop up locations.Through employee actions, creates a positive image of the Round-Up and Happy Canyon and provides, for sale, high quality merchandise to customers, directors and others. Provides outstanding customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes, but are not limited to:

  • Get up and greet all customers entering the store immediately.
  • Assist customers with purchases, returns, and exchanges, make correct change
  • Count, tag, and folds all new merchandise and display on sales floor
  • Keep back stock in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Packages and ships online orders to customers
  • Opens store and til in am and performs closing duties at night
  • Keep all merchandise stocked and in size order on floor
  • Notifies store manager of items with low inventory for reorder.
  • Answers phone calls and emails regarding the Pendleton Round-Up merchandise, tickets, and area information.
  • Assists with year-end inventory count of all merchandise at end of fiscal year.

Other Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and effectively works with customers, Board members and other employees.Rapidly responds to inquiries and requests.
  • Perform Round-Up and Happy Canyon event ticket sales, room and property reservations and assists Board members with meeting preparation and other activities as needed.
  • Participate in mail activities including rapidly distributing, posting and delivering packages and correspondence of all types, including delivery to the post office.
  • Meet required attendance standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as typing, correspondence preparation and file maintenance.
  • Must be proficient in operating standard office equipment including photocopiers, fax machines and desk top computers.
  • Must be proficient with multiline telephones. Must demonstrate proper telephone etiquette and efficient processing of messages and telephone generated tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Education:Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years retail or customer service experience preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills required. Quickbooks Point of Sale or similar expertise preferred. Experience with online sales interfaces and shipping.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of Round-Up and Happy Canyon activities, history and other related programs.
  • Must thrive in fast paced, demanding retail and office environment.
  • Must speak fluent English and have normal range of hearing and vision.Must also possess manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and be capable of climbing stairs.
  • Must maintain willingness to be an active member of a high functioning team.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of professional communication techniques with strong customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of business correspondence including spelling, grammar and formatting to result in professional communication, reports and other documents.
  • Accurate cash handling including daily reconciliation of sales and receipts.

Internship Program

*APPLICATIONS are accepted in April for summer programs, please contact for an application.

Purpose: A real world, well rounded program to be tailored to the needs of the organization at the given time. The 10-12 week program of rotational duties and projects may include these areas of work experience but are not limited to: Marketing, Public Relations, Social Media, Customer Service, Volunteer Coordination, Retail and Ticketing operations, and database and data entry.

A stipend may be paid out to the student or a scholarship may be awarded to the school.

Over the course of the program there will be three evaluations. One after two weeks, one at the halfway point, and one at the end of the internship.

Interns can aid the Organizations by:

  • Provide freedom for professional staff to pursue creative or more advanced projects.
  • Increase staff retention rate.
  • Assist an organization in application of the latest strategies and techniques in the field.
  • Promote community involvement as an excellent public relations tool.
  • Recruit other students and generate enthusiasm.
  • Creates awareness of the field for future hires.
  • Giving to the community by teaching the prospective work force.

You can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with many of the following activities:

‐ Preparing news releases, social media content, special interest articles, fact sheets;

‐ Enhancing the organization’s social media presence, creating copy, Website;

‐ Participating in strategy meetings, conference calls;

‐ Supporting special events and site tours;

Internship Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Social Media focus includes: Assist with social media engagement by helping manage social channels. Drafting and editing copy for social channels. Monitoring social media web analytics on a weekly basis (e.g. page views, twitter followers), and provide reports of growth and other activity.

Marketing/advertising focus includes: Engaging with marketing team on a regular basis to brainstorm ideas for new and innovative marketing and social media campaigns. Assist with gathering data for marketing reports and supporting a variety of marketing and advertising programs.

Volunteer Coordination includes: Engaging with both RUP & HC Volunteers, learning the database and functionality to aid in the distribution of information.

Other duties as they arise and staff need help with.

Qualifications: Only the best and brightest need apply to be considered for the public relations Summer/Fall or Winter/Spring internship, you must:

‐ Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher;

- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Knowledge and experience with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media platforms.

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

‐ Major in public relations, communications, English, journalism or marketing; agriculture based is acceptable

‐ Be a junior or senior at university

‐ Applicants are responsible for transportation to and from the internship experience

Hours are flexible and depend on the student’s class schedule, course requirements (if applicable) and availability. • Hours Per Week: 40 •
