Pendleton Round-Up Newsletter - November 2007
This message is hopefully the first of a monthly web page letter that we hope everyone will enjoy. It’s purpose is to keep our web page viewers up do date on what’s currently going on with Round-Up and give you updates on future happenings. We also intend to run a Did you Know? Column and may even have a contest spin-off from that.
The fall is a busy time for the Round-Up Board. During October and November we select our President for the coming year and also fill any new board vacancies that occur. At the end of November, we have our annual Stockholder’s Meeting, where we review our financial report for the year and officially elect our officers and new members to the Board. It is also the time of year we have Queen and Court try-outs and begin the process of selecting the 2008 court.
December is the National Finals in Las Vegas and once again the Pendleton Round-Up has been nominated for Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. Members of our board will attend the PRCA banquet which names all of the honorees for the year and immediately following the banquet we will do a telephone press release for the following morning to let everyone know how we did.
Keep your finger’s crossed, but this award has usually gone to Cheyenne.
Our concert committee is busy trying to select an artist for next year’s concert. Anyone that thinks this is easy should try it sometime. Because of the large price’s big name artists have been able to demand, we’ve found ourselves in the position of trying to sign up and coming artists who have had several hits and some name identity. So far it has worked very well with the likes of Josh Turner, Sarah Evans, Dirks Bently and others.
As many Round-Up volunteers know, we are working hard at making the west end expansion
a reality. Shortly, members of the board will begin attending as many service clubs, teas, socials and just about anything else we can think of, to let people know about the expansion and what it will mean to the Pendleton community at large. We need desperately for the City to get behind this project and the best way to do that is to let people know how many clubs and organizations within the community benefit financially each year from Round-Up. We think most people will be surprised when they see the numbers.
As Christmas approaches, don’t forget about our retail store, which features very unique gift ideas.
DID YOU KNOW? The Round-Up grounds is actually owned by the City of Pendleton, but leased to the Round-Up Association on a long term lease?
DID YOU KNOW? Yankee Stadium, one of the most historic and revered stadiums in America, wasn’t completed until 1923, thirteen years after the Pendleton Round-Up began.
We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Don’t forget the Christmas Stroll and Parade on December 1st. This is the first of what hopefully will become an annual event. Get downtown and support our local merchants - it should be fun. Let’er Buck®.
