Round-Up Announces Scholarship Winners
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Round-Up Association has awarded four young people scholarships for the coming school year. Keeley LeGore of Pendleton, Bobby Corey of Adams, Clell Hasenbank of Athena and Cheyenne Williams of Athena have received $1,000 scholarships.
Ron Pahl, Pendleton Round-Up Scholarship Committee Chairman, said this group of young people are all very good citizens.
“This year’s scholarship recipients are all outstanding young people, who not only have achieved great success inside the class room, but understand the significance of contributing back to their communities. The Round-Up association wishes them well and looks forward to seeing them mature as community leaders.”
LeGore, a senior at Pendleton High School, is the daughter of Troy and Roselle LeGore. She carries a 3.89 grade point average and plans to attend Albertson College of Idaho, where she will major in Pre-Med Biology with a minor in Music. Her family members are longtime Round-Up volunteers and Keeley spends Round-Up helping with an assortment of maintenance work, painting and ushering.
Corey, is the son of Doug and Heather Corey and attends Pendleton High School. He has a 3.75 grade point average and will attend the University of Idaho next fall, majoring in Agriculture and Biology. He too, comes from a long line of Round-Up volunteers dating back to his great grandfather, John Hales, who was a past president of Round-Up. Corey began working at the Hospitality Tent at age 6 and continues to assist with livestock and the PBR.
Hasenbank, is the son of Ken and Janell Hasenback and currently attends College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California, where he carries a 3.69 grade point average. After completing two years at COS, he plans on transferring to the University of Idaho where he wants to continue playing football and eventually obtain his degree in Pharmacy. Hasenbank has been a Round-Up volunteer for ten years and works behind the chutes moving livestock.
Williams, a Senior at Weston-McEwen High School, is the daughter of Larry and Julie Williams. She carries a 4.05 grade point average and plans on attending the University of Idaho, where she will major in Ag-Business. Her family’s involvement with Round-Up dates back to 1925 and continues today. Williams has sold programs, attends parades as a pennant bearer and assists wherever she is needed.
The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon is held the second full week of September in Pendleton, Ore. The Round-Up began in 1910 and is recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world and won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s 2003 Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year Award. The Happy Canyon Night Show is a colorful display of Indian pageantry and tradition and takes place every night of Round-Up. A week full of activities, including parades, concerts, PBR bull-riding competition, barbecues, dances, gambling and numerous other events begin Saturday, Sept. 8th and continue through Saturday, Sept. 15th.
