Stock Contractors
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Pro Rodeo is a competitive sport between cowboy contestants and healthy rodeo animals, be they bucking horses or bulls, bulldogging steers or roping calves. The men who raise and care for these animals are known as stock contractors and are perhaps the single most important factor in the production of a successful rodeo.
Sankey Rodeo Company of Joliet, Montana, is celebrating is 25th Anniversary in the rodeo business. Started in 1978 in Rosehill, Kansas, by Ike and his father, Bud, Sankey Rodeo Company has grown into one of the most prominent stock contracting firms in the PRCA. Ike and Roberta with their children, Ryan and Wade, work hard to ensure every Sankey Rodeo Company production is top quality.
Noted for having one of the best rodeo stock breeding programs in the business, the Sankeys raise World Champion horses, including: 1994 and 1997 Saddle Bronc of the Year, Skitso Skoal; 1996 and 1997 Reserve Bareback Horse of the Year, William; 1998 Saddle Bronc of teh Year, Skoal's Wild Card; 2000 Saddle Bronc fo the Year, Surprise Party Skoal; and 2003 3rd Place Bareback of the Year, Dippin Broadway. These champions, and the rest of our All-Star Bucking Horses, can be seen at Sankey-produced rodeos, as well as the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR). Over $100,000 was won on our top five horses in 2003.
Ike understands rodeo from all aspects. He qualified for the National Finals four times in the Bareback Riding and once in the Saddle Bronc Riding. He has been nominated as the "PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year" seven times by the Cotnract Personnel and Contestants of the PRCA and won the award in 1999. He also received the "Service Member of the Year" award in 2000 from the Rocky Mountain Association of fairs.
Corey & Horst Rodeo Co. of Moses Lake, WA, Western Rodeo of Folsom, CA, Korkow Rodeo of Pierre, SD, and Burns Rodeo Company will also be providing rough stock.
Other stock contractors include: Darrel Sewell of Clarkston, WA, steer and calf roping; Brent Palmer of Milton-Freewater, OR, team roping and bulldogging; and Larry Hoeft of Bar 41 Ranch, Pilot Rock, OR wild cows.
